Books can be complicated, because they\u2019re full of words and stuff. Apparently book words are not complicated enough to justify research grants though, so academics made up new words to describe what the words in books do. As a graduate of Fine Arts, I\u2019m here to demystify some of their terminology so you can sound smart and stuff too.<\/p>\n

3. STRUCTURALISM<\/h4>\n

Guys, I just had a revelation: words totally mean things<\/em>.<\/p>\n

4. DECONSTRUCTION<\/h4>\n

I sure do love Lego. I wish everything worked like Lego, including people.<\/p>\n

5. SURREALISM<\/h4>\n

I just had the weirdest dream. I wonder what it means<\/em>.<\/p>\n

6. DADA<\/h4>\n

Everything is meaningless, so fuck it, let\u2019s slap each other with fish.<\/p>\n

7. AESTHETICISM<\/h4>\n

Man, the sentences in Lolita are so beauti\u2014shut up, I don\u2019t want to know what the book is all about!<\/p>\n

8. MAGICAL REALISM<\/h4>\n

I\u2019m going to treat a metaphorical thing like it\u2019s a real thing in the story world because that would be\u2014shut up, it\u2019s not fantasy!<\/p>\n

9. HYSTERICAL REALISM<\/h4>\n

Shit, this novel is just like a big rant or something. There totally needs to be a new word for this, because this totally didn\u2019t exist bef\u2014shut up, Voltaire!<\/p>\n
